well the mark of a good man's how he falls like a lung in its leaving breath but your breathing left no air at all and you pressed your face into my chest ----- autumn, it came like some kind of silent engine pulling apples to the ground each night's the same: I can feel your absence linger in the shadow of my skin, in the hair upon my crown with the thoughts therein ---- well I thought if the sun shone bright enough the day would never end but your reverent eyes were fixed above and the dusk was crowding in in those eyes a sinister star did rise, oh a crow would call so well when the dogs were barking once and twice on the hour like a bell

Oh my darling - you set fire to the lake while I was swimming Oh the footpaths - oh, the miles - I would run to see what you were thinking Oh the Hammer, where's that (loco) (loco)motive is the engine driving (in)? (In)deed I would love to see the face of the last man I tried to (please) (Please) the hammer Please the engine Let that train just roll off in reverse With you all my thoughts are weapons Deadliest the one that I had first There is Johann with his beard drawn - surname rhymes but I won't say it (here) (Here)'s my notion, resignation, downward motion, intimation's (clear) (Clear) the airways, stop him drowning Angels laughing up there on the bridge "You must go so they'll remember Jump the railing - die so you can live Just forget about Clara and the kids Life is just too difficult to fix" ~River, I heard your currents singing I'd hoped to sleep forever in your arms~ I will stay in states aphasic, lying supine, breathing through my mouth My family all are strangers - remnants of the man the water washed (out) (Out)side the air is full of birdsong Oh the ease with which they sing their blues The sun is full of sorrow Bright, rotating, incubating fuse At night it sings that sorrow Moon and stars fade in to light the sky Saviors died for some tomorrow Hammer has the nail to purify Sickle takes what lives so it can die Engine runs until there comes a time River you tease me in your mercy I'd hoped to sleep forever in your arms Each angel heavy, every bird a prophet Every sunrise brings another storm River I heard your currents singing They dragged my body to your shores Was only time the arbiter, dear When I was begging to be un-born? River, I- River, I- (River Rhine) River, I- Oh my darling Oh my darling

sail away 04:41
Sail away, I'll sail away I'll go, my love. I'll go today. If you find me quick a fleet of ships, I'll make my trip. I wont delay. I'll bring you spice - the taste we've lost. The Emperor's rice, the ancient cloth. I'll bring you clocks that will not wind that long since stopped, too full of time. I'll sail away, I'll sail away. What a glorious day to sail away! On the wind I'll soar to foreign shores. The stars once more will light my way. I'll bring you birds in a gilded cage. In time they'll learn to sing your praise. In time they'll learn to turn a phrase - no longer yearning for things to say. Spent all night behind my eyelids, vision darting back and forth. But you were always in the periphery, of course. Somewhere there's a sunken desert, and I'm drowning in the drought. And every time I write you know what its about. I'll bring you hues to die your hair. I'll bring you apple, peach, and pear. I'll cross the whole wide ocean fair - and sail back to my love, I swear. I'll sail away, I'll sail away. I'll go, my love. I'll go today. If you find me quick a fleet of ships, I'll make my trip. I wont delay. I'll sail away, I'll sail away. What a glorious day to sail away!

about

At the start of fall, after a long and busy summer. I packed up my belongings and started off on a long drive from Brooklyn, NY to Austin, TX. I was nervous but excited to start a new and different part of my life.

And then my car broke down on the New Jersey Turnpike.

After the smoke had cleared from under the hood and it had become clear to me that I had no earthly idea how to fix a car, I hunkered down in the backseat and waited for help to arrive. It occurred to me that it might be fun to take my little field recorder and just crank something out, warts and all - a little EP from inside this little broken box on the side of the highway, complete with the background of whooshing trucks that rattled my beached car as each one of them hurtled by.
